This course is open to a range of clinicians, educators and caregivers
who
are likely to work with children with gross motor dysfunction.
Physical
therapists, occupational therapists, rehabilitation physicians,
physical
therapy assistants, teachers, teacher assistants, adaptive Physical
Educators,
and caregivers will all learn skills they can use right now. The
content
of each course can be modified for Medical vs. Educational Models and
Parent
vs. Professional audiences.
Ms. Paleg’s educational programs routinely receive enthusiastic and
lasting
acclaim from participating clinicians who appreciate an academic
challenge,
the clinical relevance of the content, and the practical, new, and
effective
treatment ideas and a review of the evidence that they are based on. In
these
programs, Ms. Paleg briefly reviews numerous anatomical, physiologic,
and
functional factors that commonly operate in children with movement
disorders
related to central nervous system dysfunction. She applies several new
concepts,
that are evidenced based, in the fields of spasticity,
neuroplastiucity,
splinting and equipment use.
Ginny Paleg, MPT, grew up in New York and attended Stuyvesant High
School.
She received her BS in Biology from SUNY Albany in 1984 (she found her
husband
here too). Ginny earned her Masters Degree in PT from Emory
University
and is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland in
Baltimore. She is NDT (Neuro-Developmental Therapy),
formerly MOVE (Mobility Opportunities via
Education) and TES (Threshold Electrical Stimulation) Certified.
Ginny
has written or co-authored numerous publications, including: Ask the
Expert
in Exceptional Parent Magazine, PT Advance and Physical Therapy
Products
Magazine, where she is on the editorial board. Ginny is a member
of
the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine and
APTA,
where she is on the Gov't Affairs Committe and very active in
Reimbursement
for Equipment Issues. She has guest lectured at annual
conferences
of the APTA, Abilities Expo, World Congress on Disabilities,
International
Seating Symposium, RESNA, Medtrade and others.
Ms. Paleg worked for 2 years on staff at NIH as an officer in the
Public Health Service. She worked part-time and full time over
the next five
years for 0-5 school and home based programs. During this time
she
spent a lot of time with her own two daughters (Sarah and Rachel are
now
14 and 11 years old). Ginny work at The Hospital for Sick
Children
in Washington, DC, an rehab center and hospital. For the past
three
years she has worked part time for Montgomery County Infant and
Toddlers.
She spends a few days a month on the road teaching continuing
education
courses.
Honorarium: $1,000/day
$100/hr for
consultations/consulting
or $800 for less than 4 hrs
Expenses additional (approx $800-1,000 for plane
tkt,
meals, parking, taxis, etc)
You assume responsibility for all course administration and related
costs,
including:
Every course is enhanced by live patient demostrations. If a
family
agrees to participate, they can expect Ms. Paleg to assess them and
make
verbal reccommnedtaions. The facility should supply a small gift
to
the child and/or family for thei time.
